Community Program
Islamic Games began in 1989 by a group of Muslim youths in Queens, NY. The annual event brought Muslims together to compete in various sports. Imam Siraj Wahhaj and Imam Zaid Shakir were among some of the early notable participants.
In 2005, after years of growth, Islamic Games was rebranded and relaunched, evolving into a multi-faceted sports festival that attracted thousands of participants competing in team and individual events. Today, Islamic Games serves as the premier competition for Islamic centers, leagues, clubs, youth organizations, and Muslim schools.
In 2024, over 5,000 athletes participated in Games held in New Jersey, Dallas, Chicago and Brampton, Canada. Islamic Games is open to any individual or team regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion. The excitement and unique experience of Islamic Games will be celebrating its 35th Anniversary in 2025.
Alhamdulillah, for 2025, Islamic Games is scheduled across 7 cities in North America. The cities and dates are as follows:
The Islamic Games is North America’s largest Muslim sports and athletic event. Featured events include basketball, soccer, volleyball, cricket, softball, flag football, track & field, swimming, tennis, table tennis, pickleball, cycling, 5K, archery, arm wrestling, fitness course, martial arts and more. Athletes compete in all age categories, with separate divisions for male and female participants.
In 2025, Islamic Games is anticipated to attract over 9,000 athletes from more than 800 teams, with an anticipated attendance exceeding 50,000. The Games will bring together a diverse coalition of partners, including hundreds of Islamic Schools, sports leagues, sports academies, youth organizations, and national organizations.
