Iftar Dinner and Celebratory Fundraiser for SCN

🏛️ Hosted by Organization not assigned

We are thrilled to invite you to Syrian Community Network’s Iftar Dinner and Celebratory Fundraiser honoring 10 years of SCN, a new Syria, and our Founder, Suzanne Akhras, who is stepping down at the end of Ramadan. The event will take place on Thursday, March 20th, 2025 at Ashton Place in Willowbrook. We will be breaking fast with a family style dinner catered by Al Bawadi. Omar Offendum, Syrian American rapper and poet, will emcee and perform from his catalog, including some selections from his dynamic show Little Syria. This event marks many significant milestones for SCN, most importantly celebrating ten years of collectively supporting immigrants and refugees here in Illinois. Since our founding in 2015, we have grown our programming to encompass Case Management, Education, and Immigration legal services. While our initial mission was to provide a safety net for Syrian refugees, we have broadened our reach to individuals from over 30 countries and 18 languages. Your presence at this event is more than a celebration—it is an opportunity to support the continuation of our mission. By purchasing tickets or becoming an individual sponsor, you are playing a pivotal role in helping us raise critical funds to continue sustaining the futures of our programs and our community members. Together, we are committed to working alongside immigrants and refugees and fulfilling our vision of making Illinois a state where immigrants and refugees feel safe, welcome, and supported in their communities.

Signs of the Hour

🏛️ Hosted by MSA at UIC

Throughout history, believers have reflected on the signs that point toward the approaching Hour, using them as reminders to renew their faith, refine their character, and strengthen their connection with Allah. The study of these signs is not meant to create fear or speculation, but to awaken the heart to the realities of the Hereafter and the fleeting nature of this world. By reflecting on the teachings of the Qur’an and the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ regarding the Signs of the Hour, we gain clarity about our purpose, responsibility, and the path toward salvation. This year’s retreat will focus on the major and minor signs of the Hour through authentic scholarship and thoughtful reflection. Participants will learn how these prophetic teachings have been understood throughout Islamic tradition and how they remain relevant in our modern context. Through engaging lectures, discussions, and moments of spiritual reflection, attendees will leave with a deeper awareness of the Hereafter and practical insights on how to live with greater faith, mindfulness, and preparation for the meeting with Allah.SCHEDULEOur Annual Retreat is an event for the entire community!
