Belief in the Angels
Introduction
Belief in the angels is one of the pillars of Iman. Angels are part of the unseen world that Allah has created. Although human beings cannot normally see them, Muslims believe in them because Allah and His Messenger ﷺ informed us about them.
Belief in the angels reminds Muslims that reality is greater than what the human eye can see. The world is not limited to physical objects and visible events. There is an unseen world created and controlled by Allah.
This belief strengthens faith, increases awareness of Allah, and teaches discipline, humility, and responsibility.
Who the Angels Are
Angels are noble creations of Allah. They were created to obey Allah perfectly. They do not disobey Him, and they carry out the duties He assigns to them.

Angels are not divine, and they are not partners with Allah. They do not deserve worship. They are servants of Allah, honored by Him and completely obedient to His command.
Muslims believe in the angels mentioned by name, such as Jibreel, Mika’eel, Israfeel, and the Angel of Death, and they also believe in the many angels whose names are not known to us.
Their Duties and Purpose
Allah has assigned angels many duties. Some angels deliver revelation, some record human deeds, some protect people by Allah’s command, some take souls at death, and some are connected to Paradise, Hellfire, rain, mountains, and other matters known through revelation.
Jibreel
Jibreel عليه السلام is the angel who brought revelation to the prophets. He brought the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. His role shows the importance of divine guidance.
The Recording Angels
Every person has angels who record their deeds. This belief teaches Muslims that words and actions matter. Nothing is lost or forgotten with Allah.
The Angel of Death
The Angel of Death takes souls by Allah’s command. This reminds Muslims that life is temporary and that every person will return to Allah.
Angels Connected to Mercy and Worship
Some angels attend gatherings of remembrance, make dua for believers, and are connected to acts of obedience and mercy.
What Muslims Learn from Believing in the Unseen
Belief in angels teaches Muslims to believe in the unseen. Not everything real can be seen by human eyes. Human knowledge is limited, while Allah’s knowledge is complete.
This belief helps Muslims become humble. It reminds them that the universe is much greater than what they personally experience.
It also strengthens trust in revelation. Muslims believe in angels because Allah informed us about them, not because they are visible to us.
Belief in Angels Encourages Good Behavior
When Muslims believe that angels record deeds, they become more careful with their actions and speech. They understand that even small words and private actions are known to Allah.
This belief encourages honesty, modesty, discipline, and self-control. A person becomes more aware that life is being recorded and that accountability is real.
Belief in Angels Brings Comfort
Belief in angels also brings comfort. Muslims know that Allah’s mercy surrounds the believers in many ways. Angels may pray for believers, support them by Allah’s permission, and be present in gatherings where Allah is remembered.
This belief reminds Muslims that they are not alone in their journey of faith.
Conclusion
Belief in the angels is an essential part of Islamic faith. Angels are noble servants of Allah who obey Him perfectly and carry out His commands.
This belief teaches Muslims about the unseen, accountability, humility, and trust in revelation. It encourages good behavior and reminds believers that Allah’s creation is vast, organized, and full of wisdom.
