Bio of Dr. Esam Omeish

"Dr Esam Omeish is a Libyan American Surgeon from the Washington DC Metropolitan area. He is a former National President of Muslim Students' Association of US and Canada in the early Nineties. He is a former National President of Muslim American Society (MAS) from 2004-2008. He is a graduate of Georgetown University with double degrees in Biology and Political Science and a Medical doctorate in 1993. He is a former candidate for the Virginia State Assembly in the House of Delegates and former member of a statewide commission on Immigration appointed by then Governor of Virginia Tim Kaine. He serves in Several boards and national organizations, and currently the Chairman of the Waqf Washington Trust of CAIR National ( Council on American Islamic Relations) and a founding member of MAS Foundation. He has represented American Muslims on numerous occasions in the White House, meeting both Presidents Clinton and Obama, in National rallies and political events, and in many media, outlets including CNN, MSNBC, FOX, Aljazeera, C-Span, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, National Public Radio, and others. He also helped establish and presided over major Libyan American organizations supporting democracy and the rule of Law in Libya after Feb 17 revolution. He continues to serve as frequent speaker, Khateeb, civic leader and a community organizer as well as a provider of health services to the needy and the uninsured Dr. Omeish was a medical first responder to the tragic events of September 11 where he was the surgeon on call at Alexandria Hospital which received some of the victims of the tragic events in the Pentagon. Dr Omeish was featured in a book, ""A Nation of Nations"" by Tom Gjeltan of National Public Radio (NPR) published by Simon and Shuster in 2015 as well as by Aljazeera featured program on Arab Diaspora in 2018 ""Mughtariboon"" Dr Omeish is married to Dr Badria Kafala who is a college professor of Molecular Genetics and the proud father of four children. Abrar is a Yale graduate, currently at Georgetown Law, and an elected political official as a School Board member in Virginia. Anwar is a graduate from Harvard University, a Rhodes finalist , an Oxford graduate with a Masters in Islamic studies and history, and currently doing her PhD in Political Theory at University of Chicago, Yousof is a graduate from Yale University and Ibrahim who is a senior in High School."
